Fall Photo Sessions / Martinsville, NJ

The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is a 127 acre property located in Morristown, New Jersey.  The arboretum surrounds the Frelinghuysens’ mansion and its formal gardens, and features nature trails with labeled trees and shrubs.  At different times of the year you will find ornamental grasses, hollies, Witch-Hazels, flowering Cherries, Magnolias, Crabapples, Rhododendrons, Dogwoods, Lilacs, Viburnums, Azaleas, Hostas, and Stewartias.  When the leaves turn color in October, the Maple trees are a showstopper!

Drum Hill StudiosLocated just minutes from Interstate 287, Frelinghuysen Arboretum is surprisingly peaceful and secluded.  On my walk I actually found this gentleman fast asleep under the gazebo. 🙂

The Fall foliage season is one of the most beautiful times of year for a family photo shoot and it’s just around the corner! In fact, at Frelinghuysen, I spotted some leaves that have already begun to show some color (see below). According to NJ Hiking the average New Jersey peak fall color is October 19 through 29.  The annual fall foliage bloom is dependent primarily on moisture and the first frost.  Of course, one good storm is all it takes to wipe out these delicate Fall leaves (remember the October nor’easter of 2011, a.k.a., Snowtober?).  That’s why I begin booking Fall photo sessions beginning the first week of October.
