What to Expect

The Custom Photography Experience

High-end custom photography is for those who want portrait art that is truly personalized.  Each image requires a great deal of time and attention to detail.  The result is heirloom quality images you will treasure forever.

Before Your Shoot – The Pre-Consultion

Once you book your session date it is yours and yours alone.  This eliminates the pressure of time constraints so you and your family can relax, have fun and be in the moment during your session.  I will talk with you in-person or over the phone so I can understand your expectations and answer any questions you may have about my process and pricing.

Your Session

Family photo sessions typically take place outdoors.  We can go to a park, beach, even your own backyard – whatever setting is the best fit for you.  I like to shoot during the first and last hours of daylight because that is when the light is softest and most flattering.  Sunrise and sunset changes throughout the year, so your session will be scheduled accordingly.  I am willing to photograph in almost all types of weather because, despite what you may think, overcast days, snowy days, even rainy days, can make for some unexpectedly beautiful photographs.  Newborns, however, require very specific conditions. That’s why, in most cases, I prefer to photograph newborns indoors where I can control the climate and environment.  Indoor studio sessions can take place any time of day.

Family/Children:

I carry a semi-candid approach to photographing families and kids which garners a perfect mix of spontaneous and arranged shots.

Newborn:

I prefer to photograph newborns as close to their birth date as possible. That is when newborns are sleepiest and easier to pose. Most newborn sessions take place at my studio where I have access to all the props, backdrops and equipment I need.  However, in the event that you can’t travel to me, I am available to travel to your home.  I can work with natural light from a window or doorway, but if necessary I also have studio lights that are easily transportable.  If time allows newborns can be photographed with family members on the same day or you may choose to schedule that for a separate time.

Maternity:

Maternity sessions typically take place in the seventh month of pregnancy when mom has a noticeably round belly, but is still comfortable.  You may schedule a solo session or one that includes a significant other and/or baby’s siblings. It’s entirely up to you.

After your session – The Viewing and Ordering Appointment

After your session your images are backed up immediately.  I then begin the process of editing the best. In approximately 2 weeks you will get to see your finished images for the first time. I offer several collections which carry a significant savings.  You may also purchase items a la carte. Once you have made your purchase you will receive a password to your own private online gallery that you can share with friends and family.  Using the online gallery additional prints and products can be ordered.  Your gallery will expire in two weeks so all orders must be placed within that time.  Please allow 7-10 days for prints to be processed and delivered. Albums can take several weeks depending on the complexity of the design.
