Newborn sessions are always unpredictable! Although newborns do share certain characteristics, make no mistake, they each have their own very distinct personalities, likes and dislikes.
When a newborn arrives at my studio for the first time I have very little time to get to know them before I begin shooting. As their photographer it’s my job to sense the subtle nuances that let me know which poses they’ll tolerate and which they won’t. I also need to be able to tell when they need a break.
The one thing all newborns have in common, without exception, is that exquisite new baby smell! I always tell parents if someone can figure out how to bottle that smell they’ll have a billion dollar business on their hands! 🙂
I loved photographing this sweet baby girl. At 4 weeks old, she was older than most newborns I photograph. Younger newborns sleep more soundly and like to curl up, but this “big” girl wanted to stretch her arms and legs. Fortunately, I have a few tricks up my sleeve. 😉 I always keep my studio nice and toasty for newborn sessions. The warmth helps newborns to relax so I am able to get some sweet sleeping shots.
