Traditional Indian Family Portrait Session

I absolutely love working with families to document their journey. India is often referred to as “colorful” because of the diverse range of cultures, religions, languages, and traditions that can be found throughout the country. Additionally, India is known for its vibrant and bright textiles, clothing, and accessories, as well as its rich and diverse art and architecture.

“India is a place where color is doubly bright. Pinks that scald your eyes, blues you could drown in.” – Kiran Millwood Hargrave

As are many Americans, this beautiful family is a colorful mix. Dad is Irish/German. Mom is Indian. And mom’s parents, both Indian, are from different communities rich in diversity of art, music, dance, clothing and royalty. So for this portrait session she wanted to represent both of them through their distinct clothing, jewels and accessories. This “royal” inspired family session was so much fun. And the colorful clothing just popped.

We made sure to document a variety of poses beginning with photos of the entire family, including mom’s parents who were visiting from India. Then we moved on to photographing the children and the special bond they share as siblings. Last. but certainly not least, mom and dad solo. Mom told me it was the first time they had been photographed since their wedding and she loved it!
