We’ve had a wonderful and busy summer, filled with camps, bbq’s and mini vacations, but alas, a new school year has snuck up on us once again. That means my oldest is now a first-grader! And Mommy has 7 hours of uninterrupted silence…woo hoo! Well, not quite. My son doesn’t leave for pre-k until noon. But one child in full day is better than none, right? 🙂
She insists on taking the bus, which I find comical considering we live 3 minutes from the school, but she seems to enjoy it so I figured, why not? Having already survived the first day of Kindergarten I would say I am now a “first day” veteran. This year, as we waited at the bus stop with two nervous Kindergarteners (actually, I think the parents were more nervous), I was reminded of my daughter’s first day of Kindergarten. How I proudly watched as my little girl boarded the bus grinning from ear to ear. Not a single tear shed (at least not on her part). Well, the same held true this year. She is bright, creative and gregarious, and each year I am witness to amazing changes that bring her another step closer to the adult she will someday become. It is truly thrilling.
The first day of school was last Wednesday and since school was closed Thursday for Rosh Hashanah I decided to hold an impromptu photo shoot to commemorate back-to-school. I gathered a few props and recreated a vintage school setting outdoors. To personalize the shoot I photographed the children next to a chalk board on which I later composited their name, grade and some of their favorite things. We had a great time!
I’m booking Back-to-School sessions through the month of September. If you would like to schedule a Back-to-School Session with me please call 732-469-4610 or email me directly at kristen@drumhillstudios.com.
Happy back-to-school!!
